Letter 746

To Felix the Presbyter. At every season, but most of all when we stand for supplication and the psalmody of God, we must tread the upper air [walk aloft] with the mind and with the most sacred conceptions, and make no recollection of any object of the senses.

Ἐν παντὶ μὲν καιρῷ, μάλιστα δὲ ὅταν παριστάμεθα εἰς δέησιν καὶ ψαλμῳδίαν Θεοῦ, αἰθεροβατεῖν χρὴ τῷ φρονήματι, καὶ τοῖς ἱερωτάτοις νοήμασι, καὶ μηδεμίαν μνήμην ποιεῖσθαι παντὸς αἰσθητοῦ πράγματος.
