I learn that the blessed dwelling of our brethren is your lodging-place [katagogion, a place of resort or hostelry]; and great is the grace of this always, but now especially, when nearly every house of our friends has been shut to us through fear of men. But the fear of God presents your door open to us, and entering upon it as sinners we proclaim to you the peace that is from the Lord, blessing you and praising you as one who is a house of God. May your portion be with Abraham, who gave hospitality to angels; may every good thing, both conceived in the mind and seen with the eyes, be multiplied to you; may you rejoice both in the present age and in the age to come. Yet, together with this virtue of yours, let there also be guarding you the abstention from communion with those who take the heretical side [hairesis, heresy] against Christ, against the Theotokos [the God-bearer, the Virgin Mary], and against every saint.
