Gregory to Palladius, Bishop of Saintes in Gaul.
Your priest Leuparic, the bearer of these presents, informed us when he came to us that your Fraternity has built a church in honor of the blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and also of the martyrs Lawrence and Pancras, and has placed thirteen altars in it — four of which, we understand, have remained unconsecrated because you wished to deposit relics of the above-named saints in them. Since we have with due reverence supplied you with relics of Saints Peter and Paul, and also of the martyrs Lawrence and Pancras, we urge you to receive them with reverence and to deposit them with the Lord's help, taking care above all that those who serve in that place are provided with adequate means of support.
