**To the Same Correspondent** (359/60) This is Pales, whom I brought along when I came to stay with you, and whom I presented to you. I believe that the impression of his appearance will remind you both of my words and of your own promises. The time for action has now come — confirm the hopes you raised in both me and this man. You will find him remarkable in what he asks. For he will seek nothing beyond what the law allows, and from those in power, he will count himself fortunate if only he is not treated unjustly.

Τῷ αὐτῷ (359/60) Οὗτός ἐστι Παλῆς, ὃν ἄγων ἧκον οἱ κατέλυες καὶ ἐπέ δειξά σοι. νομίζω δέ, ὅτι σε τῆς μορφῆς ὁ τύπος τῶν τε ἐμῶν ἀναμνήσει λόγων ὦν τε αὐτὸς ἐπηγγέλλου. ἥκει δὴ καιρὸς ἔργων καὶ βεβαίου τὰς ἐλπίδας ἐμοί τε καὶ τούτῳ. τὸν δὲ ἄν- θρωπον ἐν οἷς αἰτεῖ θαυμάσεις. τῶν μὲν γὰρ νόμων οὐδὲν ἔξω ζητήσει, παρὰ δὲ τῶν ἰσχυόντων εἰ μὴ πάσχει κακῶς, ἀγαπήσει.
