Letter 129

To the same person. The Lord declared that, to those who say to me on that day that they are known by me, I will answer, "I do not know you" [Matthew 7:22-23; cf. Matthew 25:12]; because in word you honored piety, but in deed you pursued base things.

Ὁ Κύριος ἀπεφήνατο, ὅτι « Τοῖς λέγουσί μοι ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ, γνωρίζεσθαι ὑπ’ ἐμοῦ, ἀποκρινοῦμαι, ὅτι Οὐκ οἶδα ὑμᾶς· διότι λόγῳ μὲν τὴν εὐσέβειαν ἐτιμᾶτε, ἔργῳ δὲ τὰ φαῦλα μετήρχεσθε.
