Letter 695

To Julian the Presbyter. The heart has been called the hidden storehouse of the soul, in which many lawless deeds take place, which the sleepless Eye [God] alone beholds. Often, therefore, even presbyters work lawlessness in their heart.

Ἀπόκρυφον τῆς ψυχῆς ταμεῖον ἡ καρδία προσείρηται, ἐν ᾗ πολλαὶ γίνονται ἀνομίαι, ἃς μόνος βλέπει ὁ ἀκοίμητος ὀφθαλμός. Πολλάκις τοίνυν καὶ πρεσβύτεροι ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ αὐτῶν, ἀνομίαν ἐργάζονται.
