Letter 849

To the same person. Do not grow weary in praying and in looking about, with tears, for help; for after the wars waged by the demons, a person obtains a divine visitation, a mystical manifestation, and ineffable aid. For it is written, in addition to what was said to you by me yesterday: "I was made manifest to those who were not asking after me" [Isaiah 65:1]. This was fulfilled in its primary sense at the sojourn in the flesh of the Savior of all, but now it is being fulfilled in us, and in those who after us are contenders for the godly way of life. If, then, the Lord was found even by those who sought him long ago, much more will he be found by us, enlightening, exhorting, healing, supporting, taking our part, [...] and he is found through prayer and great hope.

Μὴ ἀποκάμῃς εὐχόμενος καὶ περιβλεπόμενος μετὰ δακρύων τὴν βοήθειαν · μετὰ γὰρ τῶν δαιμονικῶν πολέμων, ἐπισκέψεως θείας, καὶ ἐμφανισμοῦ μυστικοῦ, καὶ ἀρωγῆς ἀρρήτου τυγχάνει ὁ ἄνθρωπος · γέγραπται γὰρ μετὰ τὰ χθές μοι ῥηθέντα σοι · « Ἐμφανὴς ἐγενόμην τοῖς ἐμὲ μὴ ἐπερωτῶσιν » ὅπερ πρωτοτύπως μὲν ἐπὶ τῆς τοῦ Σωτῆρος τῶν ὅλων ἐν σαρκὶ ἐπιδημίας, νῦν δὲ ἐφ᾿ ἡμῖν πληροῦται, καὶ τοῖς μεθ᾿ ἡμᾶς τῆς εὐσεβοῦς πολιτείας ἀγωνισταῖς. Εἰ τοίνυν καὶ τοῖς πάλαι ζητοῦσιν αὐτὸν εὑρέθη ὁ Κύριος, πολλῷ μᾶλλον ἡμῖν εὑρεθήσεται φωτίζων, παρακαλῶν, ἰώμενος, ὑποστηρίζων, ἀντιλαμβανόμενος. οὐκειούμενος· εὑρίσκεται δὲ εὐχῆς καὶ ἐλπίδος με- γάλης.
