To Herculian.

The desire to strengthen your hallowed soul made me write to you in criticism of your excessive longing to be with me. But long ago such a flood of your enchantments washed over my soul that I cannot in good conscience reproach you for the very feeling I share.

We are both captives of the same love — the love of philosophical friendship. Let us stop pretending we are above it, and simply enjoy what the gods have given us.
