The most glorious lady Adeodata has set before us, by way of a petition, a request which is contained in what follows: namely, that within the city of Lilybaeum, in a house belonging to her own legal right, she has, of her own devotion, founded from the ground up a monastery of the handmaids of God, which she desires to have consecrated in honor of the blessed Peter, chief of the apostles, and of the holy martyrs of Christ, Laurence, Hermes, Pancratius, Sebastian, and Agnes. And therefore, most dear brother, since the aforesaid construction stands by right within your city, if it be established that no body has been buried there, then, the lawful endowment having first been received—that is, providing in revenue ten gold solidi free of fiscal tributes, three boys, three pairs of oxen, five other slaves to serve in that same monastery, ten mares, ten cows, four small plots of vineyard, forty sheep, and so forth—you are to consecrate it according to custom.
