To Leontius. (360/61) Therasius has bidden me write to you, showing by this one act his affection toward us both; for he knew that it is most delightful to me to send and to you to receive. But as to how we may requite him for the favor—and it is a very easy thing; for it will not be necessary to do this out of gold, but out of the tongue—let us say what we know about him. And we know of his skill in oratory and the excellence of his character.

Λεοντίῳ. (360/61) Ἐκέλευσέ με Θηράσιος ἐπιστεῖλαί σοι τὸ πρὸς ἀμφοτέ- ῥοῦς φίλτρον ἑνὶ τούτῳ δεικνύων ᾔδει γὰρ ἐμοί τε ἥδιστον ὂν τὸ πέμψαι σοί τε τὸ λαβεῖν. ἀλλ’ ὅπως αὐτὸν ἀμειβώ- μεθα τῆς χάριτος—ἔστι δὲ ῥᾷστον· οὐ γὰρ ἀπὸ χρυσοῦ τοῦτο δεήσει ποιεῖν, ἀλλ’ ἀπὸ γλώττης· — ἃ σύνισμεν αὐτῷ λέγοντες. σύνισμεν δὲ λόγων τέχνην καὶ τρόπων ἀρετήν.
